General Information

We have established this website to supplement our principal business of selling antiquarian items on eBay. Our business is structured to present via eBay auctions a constantly changing selection of antique:

  • Maps and Atlases
  • Globes and Planetaria
  • Historic Town Views and Plans
  • Fine Engravings, Woodcuts and Lithographs
  • Rare Books and Ephemera
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Curiosities and Oddities

Selling at auction on the eBay venue as opposed to maintaining a static inventory allows us to offer our customers significant savings over more traditional outlets for this type of fine antiquarian material. Nothing is offered for sale from this website; our expanding "galleries" of previously sold antiquarian maps and prints are presented solely for reference and enjoyable browsing.

We regularly offer original maps by Ortelius, Mercator, Blaeu, Hondius, Janssonius, Homann and Seutter as well as scarce maps by lesser known cartographers and publishers. Ongoing acquisitions allow us to offer some of the most desirable antiquarian maps at significant savings from retail dealers or major auction houses - and of course with no "buyer's premium".

In the area of historic town views, we feature examples of the famous Braun and Hogenberg prints as well as the beautifully engraved views of Matthäus Merian. The unique miniature 17th century views by Daniel Meisner and Eberhard Kieser are an area of specialty, engravings that combine the allegorical imagery and verses of the emblem book with the traditional city view format.

We deal in atlases from the 16th to 19th century, and often present 19th and early 20th century globes and planetaria for auction.

We are expanding our offerings in natural history and fine art prints, recently offering original prints from artists as diverse as the Italian master Piranesi to plates from American Ornithology by Alexander Wilson.

Our antiquarian business is named in honour of Johannes Müller von Königsberg (1436-1476), better known as Regiomontanus. Known as the father of trigonometry for his magnum opus De triangulis omnimodis, Regiomontanus was also the preeminent astronomer of the 15th century.

His work was essential in preparing the way for the advances of Tycho Brahe, Kepler and Copernicus. His translation (and major rewrite) of the Epitome of the Almagest corrected many Ptolemaic misconceptions, and was studied extensively by Galileo. He also designed and built scientific instruments including astrolabes; hence the woodcut image at left taken from the 1493 "Nuremberg Chronicle" of Hartmann Schedel.

We hope you enjoy visiting our "galleries" of antiquarian maps and prints, and encourage you to visit our eBay auctions regularly!
